Abstract
In this study, we carried out a questionnaire survey of domestic organizations carrying out activities on woody biomass in order to find their current conditions on proceeding energy business and their involvement in the local environmental management. The result showed that only 20% of the organizations surveyed were actually using woody biomass for their energy business. Their involvement in the local environmental management was different depending on the characteristics of the organizations, that is, governmental organizations have placed more emphasis on the maintenance of Satoyama, while industrial organizations have been more involved in developing local industries, and private groups have given first priority to revitalizing local communities, compared with other two kinds of organizations respectively.
