A study of center firm in a company town from the view of urban formation and change of public role

A case study in Ube city, Yamaguchi prefecture

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to grasp the changes of the role of shaping structure of urban area of a center firm, relation between the firm and the local government and structure of urban area in a company town from established as a company town up to the present date. We distribute whole time established Ube Industries, Ltd into 5 phases and conducted surveys on documents and conversation of Ube Industries and Ube city. Our results clarify following; The influence that it has on an urban formation is not a little though a public role of Ube Industries has decreased gradually in Ube City. Therefore, new partnership with the administration is needed and the approach of an urban formation needed.
