Abstract
In this study, we examined the actual usage of open spaces to consider their role in new town revitalization. The examination was conducted within a school district of Senboku New Town in the open spaces surrounding the housing complex, block parks and green walkways. The actual usage was assessed by examining sites used and type of utilization, as well as the characteristics of users in order to understand how people use open spaces. The results showed that people separated the use of open spaces according to their purposes. This study revealed the importance of renovating open spaces by making good use of their characteristics so a network can be created in the district and diversified utilization be increased.
