Abstract
With recent socio economic transitions toward knowledge society, the importance of educational infrastructures has significantly increased. In this research, learning at "Third Place" was analyzed and the following three points were clarified: 1) There are two kinds of "decision-making processes" when Floating Learners decide to learn at Third Places; "the process that desires to learn presedes place selection" and "the process that place selection presedes desires to learn"2) There are a physical motive and a psychologic motive as the determinants of the study at Third Places.Among these, the psychologic motive has significant influences against desires to learn.3) In the city, Third Place functions as a location that meets the conflicting desires "to put oneself in a certain place where some people are" and "to be alone"
