Abstract
This paper aims to clarify the institution and designation policy of centres in city planning master plan, and to acquire the fundamental knowledge for the preferable urban structure. The results are as follows. Not only land use district, centers are located in citywide, including outside of city planning areas. Branch office and station have been chosen many centers, and therefore the traffic and administrative function have a significant impact on the concept of urban structure as the designated policy of centers. But hierarchy of the catchment area is not set in most cities, and catchment area is not designated as walkable neighborhood area.
