Abstract
To model residential area's aging and withdrawal patterns, this study statistically examined the relation between residential development methods and rise and decline situations based on building data of 311 districts in Okayama City. Analytical results showed that there are characteristic tendencies of declining patterns by residential development methods and that their processes vary. Consequently, the difference in "How to make a residential area" engenders the differences in a declining situation about 40 years later. For example, in a highly sprawling residential area, the rate of housing vacancy has become higher in early stages. Even after 40 years following completion, chaotic development and withdrawal occur simultaneously.
