Abstract

Many residents in Mashiki town lost their house by 2016 Kumamoto earthquake and live in temporary housing. We conducted an interview survey from June to November 2016 and collected data (N=1,196) on residential preference of these temporary housing tenants. We found that 60% of them want to rebuild their housing at previous location, 15% of them consider disaster public housing, and 15% of them said "no-idea". Suburban residents have higher tendency to rebuild their housing than urban residents. We investigate the situation of respondents of "no-idea". We also made correspondence analysis and estimated residential choice model to reveal their preference comprehensively. This information will be valuable to provide disaster public housing appropriately and several supports.
