Abstract
Railway has been abolished in many regions of Japan due to deterioration of operation caused by progress of depopulation and motorization. Accordingly, city planning station square of the abolished station has had to change its role and utilization. This study focuses on the city planning station square after the abolition of railway. Firstly, we clarified the distribution condition of such station squares. Secondary, we surveyed the current or planned utilization of station square spaces, current ownership of land owned by railway company before abolition, as well as the status of station squares on legal city planning as a city facility from the result of questionnaire to the local governments.
