Abstract
Vehicles in the station square are used for both passengers and goods, however, the design guideline for station square does not describe about loading and unloading lots in Japan. This study aims to show the characteristics of parking for loading and unloading activities in the station square according to its type classified by its area, land use regulation, road condition around the square, etc. We surveyed 94 station squares located between JR Yamanote-Line and National Route 16 in Tokyo and classified them into 7 types. Then, we examined parking activities in the representative station square of each type, clarified the characteristics of parking both for loading and unloading and for other purposes along the time line. Finally, we discussed about possibility to provide loading and unloading lots by sharing space in the station square.
