Abstract

In the existing urban areas, gradual improvements are required through the collaboration of various stakeholders in order to realize sustainable neighborhoods. Meanwhile, in Japan, large-scale condominium developments are underway in the existing urban areas, mainly by private enterprises. This paper aims to identify the components of the development and management of condominium complexes that contribute to neighborhood sustainability and present an assessment framework for the sustainability. By using the proposed framework, we investigated the environmental changes of both condominium complex and its surrounding neighborhoods, resulting in uncovering the various efforts achieving the sustainability in target areas. This study is a first step in developing the assessment framework for the sustainability of neighborhood where condominium complexes coexist.
