This study examines a series of writings by Camillo Sitte (1843-1903) after City Planning Based on Artistic Principles, mainly from the viewpoint of “Practicality,” in order to extract what was needed from a practical viewpoint to realize Sitte's artistic city planning, and to clarify the transition of Sitte's thought toward the compatibility of “Artistry” and “Practicality. Divided chronologically into three sections, City Planning Based on Artistic Principles (1889) (Chap.3), subsequent lecture notes, discussions, etc. (1889-1901) (Chap.4), and a discussion of his last years in the first issue of Der Städtebau (City Planning) (1904) (Chap.5), this study confirms that Sitte's discourse increasingly included various discussions on “Practicality” as he approached his later years. In fact, it is precisely because Sitte consistently pursued “Artistry” that the issue of practicality became apparent in various fields.
