This paper is mainly a study of the introduction of the quasi-landscape district system on Taketomi Island, to clarify the use of this system and challenges of conserving the surrounding environment. This system was introduced to realise the conservation of the natural and production green landscape outside the settlement, with restrictions not only on the form and design of buildings, but also on the position of walls, minimum site areas and minimum areas of land where trees are preserved or planted appropriately. One the other hand, the gap between the conservation of the surrounding environment required by the local community and the restrictions revealed challenges in maintaining orderly land use and in establishing a consultation system with the local community.
