A study on design principles on the landscape and the access to the waterfront areas in Edo Era

Abstract

We have picked up the various vocabularies of the landscpae and the access to the waterfront areas in Edo Era. The conclusions of this study are as follows;
The design vocabularies of the landscape and the access are used not only at waterfront areas but in inland areas.
People recognized the seaside as the outside and the front, the inland as the inside and the back by analying the design vocabularies.
In Edo Era waterfront areas connsist of the mixtures of public and private spaces.
