A Study on the Travel Time Prediction Method Using Traffic Capacity at the Bottleneck Point

Abstract

In this paper, a new modeling method of predicting travel time on the inter-city expressways is proposed. This method is based on the estimation of travel time for jammed flow by comparing the traffic capacity at the bottleneck and the number of existing vehicles. The accuracy of the prediction method is discussed. To analyze the characteristics of the method, the influence to the accuracy by the total distance of application districts. As a result, it is known that this method has higher accuracy, even in long distance, compared with a current calculation method.
