Abstract
This paper discusses mega-containership operation based on the calling patterns oflarge-scale seaports. We divided the Asian area into four regional groups and described that each group has some competitive seaports inside, from the analysis on physical calling patterns of post-panamax containerships by mega carriers or alliances. Comparative analysis of shipping cost between post-panamax containership and mega-containership, based on the scenarios of the calling patterns, gave that many scenarios on the mega-containership showed less shipping cost than that of post-panamax containership. It also clarified that handling cost is one of significant factors for shipping cost.
