Abstract

Based on the proposed decision model of work arrival time and departure time, this paper attempted to represent the modal choice behavior of commuters by taking into account the factors of walking time, riding time, parking cost and preference for commuting by cars. Taking the commuters' modal choice behavior in a daily cycle, the commuters were assumed to choose the alternative from all available travel modes to minimum the sum of disutility derived from whole commuting process according to the appointed work start time and end time. The model was applied to the actual choice behaviors of buses and private cars of the staffs of the Municipal Government of Kitakyushu City and was proved to have well reappearance.
