Abstract

We developed the Regional Bus Information System, which provide information on time when the last bus left the bus stop. The system is much more inexpensive in introduction and operation than traditional bus location systems. It helps passengers to make decisions whether waiting for the next bus or traveling by other travel modes. From the observation survey, it was found that 6% of the buses departed a few minutes ahead of the scheduled time and 20% of passengers arrived at the bus stop only a few minutes before the scheduled time. The questionnaire survey revealed that the information system developed in this study was one of the most desired facilities located at bus stops such as roofs and benches.
