Preliminary Analysis on Current and Future CO₂ Emissions from Scheduled Civil Aviation

Abstract

 We first calculate the total CO₂ emission from scheduled civil aviation in 2005 and then the future forecast of CO₂ emission for every five years towards 2050 is conducted. The estimation of future traffic is followed by the calculation of the future CO₂ emission. The estimated total CO₂ emission in 2005 and 2050 is 630.3 Tg and 3944.2 Tg respectively. The distribution of CO₂ emission is discussed from the geographical perspective. The current CO₂ emission is concentrated in North America, Europe, and Asia; however, a significant increase in CO₂ emission is expected in Asia and Africa.
