Abstract
warding strategy often used in an effort to guide
adolescents at-risk to achieve productive adulthood.
The concept of mentoring was introduced to
Japan soon after the World War 2 and its concept
was organized as volunteer probation officers in
the field of offenders rehabilitation.
This paper consists of the following parts:
1. The author clarifies the role of intergenerational
mentoring for supporting delinquent youth. 2. The
author describes the unique function of Japanese
offender rehabilitation in which volunteer probation
officers mentor delinquent youth. 3. Finally,
the author will point out the necessity of establishing
a multi-layered mentoring network in
which citizens can help youth at-risk to adjust
themselves in their own communities.
