Reflexes are appropriate reactions which can be employed for the purpose of testing drug actions on the central nervous system. We have used them for studies of Tetrodotoxin, poison contained in organs, particularly in ovaries of Fugu, a poisonous kind of globe fish living in Japan. The poison is considered to be a central paralysant, because hypesthesia, paresthesia, motoric paralysis and finally respiratory stillstand are the symptoms of its poisoning, and there are also studies which establish its central action.
