Abstract
In order to obtain some information on the behavior of ethylene-palladous chloride complex, which is known as an intermediate complex of the direct synthesis of acetaldehyde or vinylacetate from ethylene, the ethylene-palladous chloride complex was prepared in both polor and non-polor solvents and was studied by X-ray diffraction.
Gaseous components of the thermal decomposition of the complex were also analyzed by gas chromatography.
In non-polor solvents such as n-heptane, carbon tetrachloride, benzene and p-xylene, a stable ethylene-palladous chloride complex was obtained. The complex was isolated in stable form, and X-ray examination of the complex has shown that the complex remains, unchanged even after one month.
In polor solvents, on the other hand, stable complex was not isolated by the direct reaction of ethylene with palladous chloride.
