Education in the Era of Generative AI: Transformation of Information Environments and Personalized Learning

Abstract

This paper discusses changes in educational and library information environments against the backdrop of social transformation toward Society 5.0 and the rapid advancement of generative AI. First, it reviews the transition from the information society to Society 5.0 and the concept of Digital Transformation (DX), and illustrates the potential of AI-driven value creation using examples from healthcare and nursing care. It also introduces educational applications of generative AI for personalized learning, including voice-based interaction, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and AI agent-based learning support environments. Furthermore, the paper highlights the importance of human resource development for the realization of Society 5.0 and argues that educational institutions and libraries are entering a new phase of innovation and transformation through the effective use of generative AI.
