Abstract
Academic libraries facing difficulties such as the stagnation of cooperation among academic libraries and the training of the library staff need a orporate strategy of pursuing innovation. However, there is a limit to what an individual academic library can do through its own efforts. The Institute for the Assistance of Academic Libraries was started in 2007 in order to help an academic library in such a situation from the outside. The purpose and the business plan of the Institute were the basis of a presentation in the Library Fair & Forum 2007 in Japan.
