1. 2144 abnormal leaves of Trifolium repes L. gathered by Mrs. I. KATO were studied statistically with regard to their number of leaflets and the abnormality of leaves.
2. 82.14% were of quadrifolia type, 17.3% of pentafolia type, and less than 1% of hexa- to octofolia type.
3. The multiplication of the initial of the leaflets, but not the duplication of the leaflets due to the division, is considered as the main cause of the polyphylly.
