Guanidino compounds were analyzed by means of liquid chromatography using Sakaguchi's reaction in plasma, urine and erythrocytes of patients with chronic renal failure and the following results were obtained:1) Taurocyamine(Tauro), guanidinosuccinic acid(GSA), guanidinoacetic acid (GAA), N-acetylarginine (NAA), guanidinobutyric acid (GBA), arginine (Arg), methylguanidine (MG) and a few other Sakaguchi-positive substances were clearly separated and the seven identified guanidino compounds were measured quantitatively.2) Tauro, GSA, NAA, GBA and MG increased significantly in plasma.3) Significant decreases were found in daily urinary outputs of GAA, NAA and GBA. Those of GSA and MG, however, increased significantly.4) Significantly higher levels of GSA, GAA, NAA, Arg and MG were observed in erythrocytes.5) Significant positive correlations were revealed between plasma concentrations of Tauro, GSA, GAA or MG and BUN or creatinine.6) Significant negative correlations were obtained between Ccr and plasma concentrations of Tauro, GSA or MG.7) Correlations between Ccr and daily urinary outputs of GSA or MG were negatively significant, while those of GAA, NAA or GBA were positively significant.8) Correlations between Ccr and clearances of GSA, GAA, NAA or GBA were positively significant.9) Values of different filtration rates were found for each of the guanidino compounds by hemodialysis In the present communication, mutual dynamic changes of each guanidino compound in plasma, daily urinary output and erythrocytes were characterized in relation to renal function of patients with chronic renal failure.
