Three cases of angiomyolipoma of the kidney, all pathologically identified, are herein reported.
The first case was a female teacher of thirty-two years old who had complained of the recurrent severe left flank pain for one month duration. Plain film and intravenous pyelogram showed a left upper ureteral stone and during the ureterolithotomy a tumor of the left kidney was incidentally found.
The second case, a housewife of forty-one years old with a right abdominal large tumor was admitted. Roentgenologic examinations and renal radioisotope scintigram suggested a typical malignant tumor.
The third case, a sailor of thirty-six years old who was admitted complaining of asymptomatic macro-hematuria and the abdominal tumors on both sides. Roentgenologic examination and renal radioisotope scintigram showed shadows suggesting bilateral large renal tumor.
In the last case, only exploratory operation was done, but in the other two cases nephrectomy was performed.
The first and the third cases had a complication of Bourneville-Pringle phakomatosis.
We could collect nineteen cases of angiomyolipoma of the kidney diagnosed clinically in Japanese literature, including our three, and some discussions were made of the clinical picture of the disease.
