Abstract

In order to establish various conditions for radioisotope penogram, basic experiments were carried out using adult dogs. When 181I-human serum albumin is used as the isotope, a dose of 10μCi/dog in dogs of 10-15 kg body weight appears to be adequate. A collimator specifically designed for this test also seems to be necessary. Regarding the relationship between radioisotope penogram and peripheral nerves, stimulation of pelvic nerves resulted in a marked rise in the penogram curve but stimulation of the central stump after section of this nerve caused no such effect. When erection nerves are organically injured in man, even intense stimulation from the erection center does not cause a rise in the penogram curve, in agreement with this observation. Experimental proof for the usefulness of radioisotope penogram in differentiating between organic and functional impotences was thus provided.
