EFFECT OF β₁-AND β₂-ADRENERGIC DRUGS ON THE SMOOTH MUSCLES OF THE CANINE UPPER URINARY TRACT

Abstract

Electromyographic responses of the pelvicalyceal (PC-) border where the pacemaker of ureteral peristalisisis, pelvis and ureter on administration of dobutamine (β₁-) and terbutaline (β₂-) were examined, using isolated canine pelviureteral preparations. The β₁-stimulant produced a marked enchancement of electromyographic potential in the PC-border, pacemaker region, but no noticeable responses in the renal pelvis and ureter. The β₂-stimulant completely suppressed the electromyographic activities in the pelvis and ureter, but not the pacemaker activity in the PC-border.
