Abstract
A series of feeding experiments were conducted to know the nutritive value of cottonseed meal, which had not been used in large ammount as feedstuff of poultry in Japan.
The experiment was designed to determine the proper range of level for mixing cottonseed meal. Cottonseed meal was mixed in grower and layer test diets for White Leghorn Chikens at the level of 0, 3, 6 and 9%. And their growth performance (body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, day of first egg during 8-20 weeks) and egg production performance (egg production percent, feed intake, feed conversion, weight of egg during 20-56 weeks) were studies.
The results were as follows
1) When the test diets containing 0, 3, 6 and 9% of cottonseed meal were fed, no difference was found in growth and egg production performance.
2) When the test diets containing 0, 3, 6 and 9% cottonseed meal were fed, no difference was found in egg quality (Haugh unit, pH of albumin and yolk, colour of yolk) in the eggs stored at 2°C. But the length of storing time influenced on egg quality.
