Abstract
Carnosine and anserine in red cells of domesticated fowls and livestock were analyzed by HPLC using Li column. As a result, the concentration of these substances in chicken red cells was significantly higher than that in the other domesticated animals. Carnosine concentration in red cells of chicken, sheep, Japanese quail, horses, guinea fowl and ducks were 2340±110, 200±28, 6.3±0.40, 3.5±0.52, 3.2±0.97 and 2.8±0.69μmol/l of red cell volume (Mean±S.E.), respectively. Anserine concentration in red cells of chicken, sheep and other animals were 1070±50, 3.4±0.44 and less than 0.5μmol/l of red cell volume, respectively. Moreover, a conspicuous individual variation was found in their concentrations in chicken red cells.
