Abstract
We have observed de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations inthe borocarbide superconductor, LuNi2B2C, under pulsed magneticfields up to 40, T. The observed oscillation frequency, 288± 7, T, corresponds to a cross section of 2.75× 10-2± 0.07×10-2, Å^{-2. The temperature dependence of the oscillationamplitude provides a cyclotron effective mass of m*ab=0.55±0.18me in the ab plane. By comparison with the results of bandstructure calculations, the oscillation can be assigned to a Lu 5dband which forms a small Fermi pocket near the Γpoint. These results support the validity of the band structurecalculation as a good starting point for understanding this class ofsuperconductors.
