Structural Parameters of LaCoO₃ near the Spin State Transition

Temperature dependence of the structural parameters is investigated in LaCoO₃ that shows a spin state transition at T_spin ∼ 100 K by means of high-resolution time-of-fight (TOF) neutron powder diffraction measurements. We have found that the structural parameters, such as, Co-O bond length d and Co-O-Co bondangle Θ, show no detectable anomaly at T_spin. We have compared these structural features of LaCoO₃ with those of the so-called spin-crossover complexes.
