The synthesis of a novel silver boron intermetallic compound (nominal composition: AgB2) and the occurrence of superconductivity are reported. The samples are prepared by a thin-film pulsed laser deposition method incorporating a cap technique and an annealing process in a high vacuum. A sharp transition to zero resistance at Tc=6.7 K is observed. The observed Tc is significantly lower than the theoretically predicted Tc of AgB2 diboride.
