Orbit-orbit Interactions in Atomic lⁿ Configurations

An simplified expression for the orbit-orbit interactions in terms of scalar products of tensor operators is derived for lⁿ configurations by use of the method of Racah. Main contribution of the interactions is given in the form −βL(L+1), β being a positive constant.
Analyses are made for 4p² and 5p⁴ configurations of GeI, AsII and TeI by taking the effects of the orbit-orbit interactions into account. The agreement between theoretical and experimental values of terms are satisfactory for GeI and AsII.
