The change of the intrinsic viscosity of a polymeric substance due to irradiation with high-energy radiations is discussed for various types of initial molecular size distributions. It is shown that the intrinsic viscosity can at first decrease in certain cases by irradiation, even if it reaches infinity finally at the gel point. It is further concluded that such a behavior of the intrinsic viscosity is possible, only if the initial molecular size distribution is sufficiently broad.
