Abstract
Possible similarity solutions of the equations which describe the unsteady free convection flow past a vertical flat plate subjected to suction or injection have been obtained. It is found that similarity solutions are possible only in two cases: i) When the surface temperature varies as some power of t and suction velocity varies at t−1⁄2 and ii) when the surface temperature is an exponential or periodic function of t and suction is constant. Simple closed form expressions for the velocity and temperature distributions are obtained in both the cases.
