The thermoluminescence of ZnS:Cu:Cl phosphors after irradiation by 4.5 MeV electrons from a linear accelerator or by γ-rays of Co60 was compared with that obtained by near uv light. Three main peaks appear usually. It was found that the ratio of the green peak height at 120–160°K to one at 190–220°K are little dependent on the kind and intensity of radiation and on the excitation time, while for the blue component, the ratio obtained after excitation by γ-rays or 4.5 MeV electrons is smaller than that obtained after uv-excitation. A reduction of the ratio of the blue component to the green one is also observed in the spectra of radio-thermoluminescence of the hexagonal and hexagonal like phosphors. The results are explained by employing the model on radiation quenching formerly proposed and the nature of traps is discussed.
