The 116Cd(3He, d)117In reaction has been studied with a 25.07 MeV 3He beam. The l values and spectroscopic strengths were determined for ten levels up to 2.0 MeV excitation. Strong l=0 and 2 transitions were observed against the simple shell-model expectation. These transitions are compared with predictions of the rotational model proposed by several authors, and significant disagreements are found.
