Theoretical interpretation of the behaviour of ultrasonic absorption with pressure in n-propanol and n-butanol in the pressure range 1–5000 kg/cm2 has been presented on the basis of the hole theory. A close agreement between experimental results and theoretical values of excess absorption, evaluated by taking the value of symmetry parameter to be 0.30 and 0.35 for n-propanol and n-butanol, respectively, is achieved on taking variation of hole volume with pressure to be exponential instead of being constant.
