Abstract

It has been found that the polarity of the spontaneous polarization of NH₄IO₃ along the b axis in its polar phase below 95°C can be reversed by the dc electric field, and therefore NH₄IO₃ can be said to be ferroelectric. The polarity reversal is also ascertained by etching behavior of the crystal.
