Surface Excitons in Rare Gas Solids

Comments are given on the recent observation of surface excitons in rare gas solid Ar, Kr and Xe. Experimental results that surface excitons are located below bulk excitons are consistent with our recent theory of surface excitons in molecular crystals. Observed splitting of surface excitons is also explained by the spin-orbit splitting of the valence band in these materials.
