Roles of intra- and inter-molecular interactions in the melting transition of polymer crystals are studied. Polyethylene crystals are taken up and the melting is assumed to take place with cooperative excitation of double kinks. Intra- and inter-molecular interactions make the melting transition broaden and sharpen, respectively. The effect that intramolecular interactions make the melting broaden is peculiar to polymers and is one of the reasons for diffuseness of the melting of polymer crystals.
