When the KI crystals colored additively or electrolytically are irradiated at 19 K with 270 nm-light, the new bands appear at 404, 575 and 808 nm. These three bands are assigned to I2− or I2−-like centers. Upon irradiation with polarized 328-nm light at 19 K, the V2 and V3 bands at 342 and 289 nm exhibit the 〈100〉 anisotropy. Configurations of V2 (or V3) centers at low temperatures are discussed from the viewpoint of an I3− molecular ion in KI crystals.
