Electrostatic Instability Due to Axial Variation of E×B Drift in Tandem Mirrors

抄録

Axially nonuniform plasma rotation, as expected in tandem mirrors, is shown to be unstable against ion acounstic modes. Although both convective and absolute instabilities exist the former may not be dangerous to plasma confinement, and the latter seems to be strongly dependent on actual confinement configuration.
