Effective Attraction and Delocalization-Localization Transition in Two-Dimensional Hard-Core Systems

The mean-square distance between two test particles is studied in a two-dimensional hard-core system. A delocalization-localization transition is found to occur around the pressure P_c=4k_BT⁄r₀² by means of a formalism which combines kinetics with statistical mechanics. The relation between this delocalization-localization transition and the fluid-solid phase transition is discussed briefly.
