X-Ray Study of Cold Work in Some Ordered Alloys

Abstract

The structure changes due to cold work on polycrystalline specimens of super-lattice alloys (AuCu3, AuCu, AgCd and AgZn) were studied by X-rays. In AuCu3 and AuCu, a small anti-phase domain and strain were found to be produced by cold work. In AgCd and AgZn, the ε and ζ phases both changed into the β′ phases by cold work even at room temperature, and in the case of the ε phases severe slipping along the (001) plane as well as atomic diffusion took place during and after cold work.
