In this paper, Paul Weiss's formation of the One and Many Problem and his criticisms of the precedent studies were examined. In the first chapter, present author summarized precedent studies on Weiss's philosophy and suggested that the One and Many Problem has been the central topic of his pluralistic philosophy. In chapter 2, the contents and philosophical characteristics of the Modes of Being by Weiss was overviewed. The paradox between the man's obligation to be complete and its necessary fault lay in his quest of the problem and it had led him to pluralistic standpoint. In chapter 3, the Concepts of Modes was interpreted. After overviews of several philosophers' Concepts of Modes from Spinoza, it was deduced that Weiss had produced an unique Concept of Modes of pluralistic schema. And in chapter 4, it was interpreted that Weiss's tasks had been coming up through his criticisms to the problem-solving by precedent authors. Weiss's problem-solving will be interpreted in the Prat II of this study.
