Abstract

The next-generation geostationary meteorological satellite Himawari-8 has been launched. The highly improved sensor Advanced Himawari Imager(AHI)has 16 observation bands, a 2.5-minute observation interval for the whole area of Japan, and better spatial resolution than that of former sensors. To grasp accurate daily changes in the land surface temperature, time-series analyses using each thermal band dataset are commonly performed. In this study, thermal infrared data on Himawari-8/AHI data have been used to calculate the land surface temperature. To deduce the effects of cloud cover on the calculation, the authors developed a method that involves higher-order polynomials and considered its applicability.
