Abstract
For examining the effectiveness of titanium dioxide (TiO2) on photocatalytic reaction in actual rivers or lakes, the possibility of algae growth control by using TiO2 coated materials (tiles) was evaluated. The results of experiments showed that TiO2 coated materials decrease algae growth. It also revealed that TiO2 coated materials could be effectively used in a liquid phase. However, during long-term use of TiO2 coated materials, the algae covered the TiO2 coated materials, so the algae growth gradually increased. Therefore, using TiO2 coated materials reduced the maintenance needed in amenity areas. A new device for the measurement of friction resistance was developed. By using this device, the variations of friction resistance during the growth of attached biofilm were investigated.
