Using data from public opinion surveys on Hubei Province and Jiangsu Province in China, we analyzed the relationship between the people’s attitudes towards the environmental protection and the economic growth. Majority of people preferred the environmental protection to the economic growth, and the factors of this preference are not their income level, nor the recognition of the seriousness of environmental issues, but their educational level, age, regions they live, and main information sources such as newspapers.
